Timing is Everything

Hola,

Growing up the use of a timer represented the culmination of an activity to me. For example, the physical education teacher using it as a signal to stop doing an exercise or end a game. As an adult, the use of the timer has meant that I have limited time to do something before moving onto the next activity. Currently, I am working on changing that mindset. I use the timer to buy me some quality time instead. I explain how in the video.

Hola,

The Can-Do Statements is a framework developed by the National Council of State Supervisors for Languages (NCSSFL) and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). It helps provide the teachers with guidelines for unit design and fostering a growth mindset in learners. Below are some resources that can help you get started in using the Can Do's, if you have not started yet. For a more detailed description of how to use the Can Do's in the classroom check the latest issue of The Language Educator, published by ACTFL to read my article Plating the Seeds of Growth.

Hola,

Do you ever feel stuck, like you just hit a wall and don't know what direction to take? It happens to all of us in different areas of our lives. I think it is more of the norm as unexpected events are always happening. Today, I explore a fundamental concept in computer science and how it can help us humans get unstuck.

Hola,

In Spanish class, I am always looking for opportunities to build the ability of students to use the target language spontaneously. These magic wands of sorts that I found recently at a store popular among teachers, help do just that. Watch the video to find out.

Hola,

Today, I reflect on the use of wearable tech to improve our health and fitness. It is important to remember that the primary goal of these gadgets is to give us information about our routines and patterns.  Consequently, we should be able to make better choices and as a result improve our health and quality of life.

Steering the Wheel of Routine

Hola,

This week I was reminded that we do not need to travel to an exotic destination or have dinner at a fancy restaurant to improve the quality of our daily lives. A tweak in your routine may do the trick.

New Year New Classroom!

9/8/2019

Hola,

This year I decided that it was time for a change. I got rid of those classroom items that needed to be replaced and threw away activity sheets or lesson plans that no longer serve what is currently considered best practices. Today, I share how these changes turned my classroom into a more spacious and productive space.

Hasta luego,

Hola,

Runners will most likely agree that running is a meditation of sorts. This usually refers to running outdoors. But what about running on a treadmill? Watch the video to find out what I learned about myself recently when going to a treadmill studio.
