Hola, You all know how the story ended and how the planning of my VDay performance evolved in the process. This video was recorded on the day of my second or third rehearsal when my goal was still to say my spoken-word piece. It is interesting to see how we do not know how things will play out in the end. I guess that is the magic we call life. Abrazos, Doctora Collado

Hola, My emotional intelligence toolbox in the classroom continues to grow. A strategy that I implemented to help one class, in particular, became a success with all students. Watch the video to find out how to support students when experiencing feelings of sadness or joy. Abrazos, Doctora Collado Hola, I've always loved listening to music. If I could I would have music playing 24 hours a day as a soundtrack for everyday life. But it wasn't until this past year that I started exploring the benefits of sound healing. At first, I was exposed to videos with different sound frequencies as part of Reiki treatments or meditation. I learned that the units of the sound frequency serve to treat different body ailments or spiritual purposes. Then, I was invited to a sound bath meditation. I must admit that I thought the idea of bathing in sound was a little crazy but tried it anyway. I understood the power of chimes and Tibetan bowls in our well-being. Then, I stumbled upon drums, but not just any drum. I met the primo, a high pitch drum used in Puerto Rican Bomba. In the process of learning how to dance and communicate with the drum through movement, I was also healing emotional wounds. Abrazos, Doctora Collado Hola, Not all journeys involved traveling to an exotic country far away and immersing ourselves in a different community. Sometimes, adventures take place when deciding to take a chance and do something we have never done before. Today I share a video I recorded in an attempt to document a process I was not seeing clearly. The lesson I was learning was to trust the process and embrace every opportunity that came along with it. The new people, skills, experiences, and perspectives I was being introduced to were the journey, and what mattered the most. Abrazos, Doctora Collado Hola, My philosophy has always been to use digital technology with a purpose. Perhaps we need to get better at using gadgets in our classrooms. However, paper and pencil activities have a place in learning and can be as engaging and fun as the latest App. Hasta pronto, Doctora Collado Hola, I was debating what title to give this vlog post. I was looking for something more aligned with the objective I've had so far. But the journey I'm sharing about today has been filled with so many unexplainable events that I have to conclude it was the result of magic craft. Today, I share how my desire to join a group of women on a VDay performance took me on an adventure of self-discovery, racial identity, and ancestral healing. I hope it helps spark conversations about how our society marginalizes educated women. Abrazos, Doctora Collado *Thanks to Jen Koteles for recording the VDAY performance.
Hola, So much has been written about motivation. Yet, I find that we are still trying to figure out what it it and where does it come from. Today, I reflect upon my lack of motivation and I am still able to do what I set my mind to do. Abrazos, Doctora Collado Hola, You have probably heard the term micro-aggression. Perhaps a colleague has shared experiencing one, or you have attended a workshop where you were given strategies to avoid them in the classroom. The problem with micro-aggressions is that we don't always recognize being the target of one or even worse being the perpetrator. Today I discuss how I became more aware of micro-aggressions. Hasta pronto, Doctora Collado Hola, A few months ago I came across the work of Dr. Hawkins and what is known as the Map of the Scale of Consciousness. This map is based on his research and intends to serve as a guide to understand the correlation between emotions and the levels of consciousness. Below is the chart. Abrazos, Doctora Hawkins, D.R. (2006). Transcending the levels of consciousness: The stairway to enlightenment. California, United States: Hay House. Hola, The following article refers to the show Mr. Rodgers' Neighborhood as well as Aristotle, to explore how we approach feelings, particularly when it comes to children. In today's video, I share how I've made a shift in the questions I ask students when they feel upset. Hasta pronto, Doctora Collado |
